Dear Friends: I cordially invite you to join us for a season of music, not only with great emotional power and orchestral brilliance, but with humor and playfulness as well. We will celebrate creativity with a wide range of music and honor the anniversaries of two great composers: Joseph Haydn, the father of the modern Symphony, on the 200th Anniversary of his death, and Johannes Brahms on the year of his 175th birthday. We will feature compositions modeled and inspired by Haydn, the bold experimenter, whose music uses folk songs, humor, imagination and playfulness. Among the highlights of our season will be a historic performance of the Requiem of Hector Berlioz – a large-scale choral extravaganza featuring massive musical forces including four brass choirs surrounding the orchestra – in the spacious Fargodome Gate City Theatre. To celebrate Brahms birthday, we welcome the return of violin virtuoso, Elmar Oliveira, playing the lush and beautiful Violin Concerto. With orchestral masterpieces by Tchaikowsky, Stravinsky, Debussy and Dvorak – this will be a season of musical depth as well as fun and a few surprises. Please join us as we play our hearts out to you through great music. Watch our video! Season tickets are no longer available for the 2008-09 Masterworks Concert Series and Chamber Concert Series.
